How to pack your storage space… some basics.
Make sure all your boxes are labeled and marked with the contents well, on several sides (facing the aisles). We think we’ll remember what’s in them but time has a way of helping us forget. Keep an inventory of everything you place in storage and include pictures. It takes a little more time but will be worth it when you need to find something later and for your insurance coverage as well.
Conserve space by packing linens, towels, etc. in the drawers or other empty spaces. Stack mattress on their ends. Pack all boxes full and use packing material and tape them so they will stack evenly.
Place the sturdier and heavier items on the bottom and lighter items on top. Make sure it’s stable and won’t tip over later, this way you can make use of the space moving upward. Make sure to leave an aisle so you can easily get to all your items. Place valuables to the back for extra safety and items you may need in the front. Use pallets underneath for better air circulation. Cover your sofa, chairs, mattress with dust covers to keep them clean.
Pack your fragile items with packing paper, peanuts or bubble wrap to protect from breakage. Using newspaper can leave ink on your packed items. Make sure to seal the boxes with tape to strength them. Wrap furniture with pads and dust covers to protect them and keep them clean.
